Horses of Hoofprint Bay Guide

Competitions: disciplines, levels, entry rules and scoring

Updated · Management

Quick answer

There are three disciplines: Caprilli tests (gait transitions + low jumps, the entry discipline), show jumping and cross country (late-game, high strength and endurance, with a short-hard / long-easy path choice). No dressage. Levels run Beginner → Novice → Intermediate → Advanced (Caprilli has two); you must pass the matching licence course in your arena first, win a level to unlock the next, and once a horse wins a higher level it can't enter lower ones. Scoring: obstacle faults, time penalties, and only the top three earn prize money. Showing up on a dirty horse or without show clothing costs prestige.

Levels and what they cost the horse (community-reported exercise)

Discipline Levels Exercise per entry Licence course
Caprilli test Beginner, Novice 12 / 15 Caprilli 1
Show jumping Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced 18 / 24 / 28 / 42 Show Jumping 1
Cross country Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced 20 / 28 / 40 / 50 Cross Country 1 (arena stage 2)

How a show day works

  1. You need the parking lot and a trailer (trailer page).
  2. In town pick the arena, pick a class, add horses from the side panel — you can mix disciplines — then Start Competitions.
  3. Obstacle order is randomised each day. Beat the NPC’s time with the fewest faults; top three get paid.
  4. Prestige: wins raise it; failing, a dirty horse, or missing show clothing (helmet, top, trousers, boots — select Show Wear under Clothing in your house) lowers it.

Cross country specifics

Added in the August update for late-game horses: on some stretches you choose a short route with harder obstacles or a long route with easier jumps, so manage remaining strength. Hiring Maria (retired competition rider) gives you tips on what to change during training — several players say her advice is thin.

FAQ

Is there dressage?

No. The developers have said it's a hard no; Caprilli tests are the closest thing (precise gait transitions plus low obstacles).

How much is the prize money?

Not published, and the community wiki leaves it blank. Only the top three are paid; there's an entry fee (~20 at the lowest level, community figure).

Why can't my horse enter the Beginner class any more?

A horse that has won a higher level is locked out of the lower ones (community-reported). Use a different horse for low classes.

How many competitions can I do a day?

One trip to town per day, but you can bring as many horses as your trailer has slots and enter each in several classes as long as its exercise budget lasts.

Why did I finish last?

Faults (about 4 points each) and time over the NPC's time (about 1 point per 4 seconds). Finishing last is a hidden achievement — 13.8% of players have it.
