Horses of Hoofprint Bay Guide

Riding lessons: corrections, pay, and the stat drain

Updated · Management

Quick answer

Lessons are an early income: you ride alongside a student and correct their mistakes as fast as you can — the quicker the correction, the bigger the tip, with three pay tiers from roughly 30 to 130 a session. Two things players run into: corrections feel hard at first (zoomed-in lessons and pausing on Esc were added for this), and a horse used only for lessons slowly loses strength and endurance — lessons don't train, so alternate with training courses. Later you can hire Julia to teach up to 8 lessons a day for you (community-reported).

How a lesson goes

The student rides; when they make a mistake a prompt appears and you press the correction. The faster you hit it, the more you earn. The demo patches added zoom, pausing on Esc, and the option to mute the lesson sounds if the cues distract you.

Pay (community-reported)

Three tiers, roughly 30 / 80 / 130 per session depending on the lesson level and how clean your corrections were. Treat these as ballpark until a second source confirms them.

FAQ

Why does my horse get worse from lessons?

Lessons use the horse without training it; players report strength and endurance dropping. Put lesson horses through courses between sessions, and don't lesson a pregnant or nursing mare.

Can I skip the lesson tutorial?

Yes, since demo patch v0.1.10.

Can staff give lessons?

The community wiki lists Julia (house stage 2) as an instructor who runs up to 8 NPC lessons a day for a wage of ~100. One launch-week thread reports staff lessons not applying — possibly a bug.
