Horses of Hoofprint Bay Guide

Boarders: rates, what they want, and the 500 fine

Updated · Management

Quick answer

Boarders are the early money. Three tiers reported by players: part board ~50/day, full board ~90/day, schooling board ~90/day plus a one-off training fee; you're paid when the stay ends and can send them home early. Caring for boarders also raises prestige. The traps: a neglected boarder costs a fine (~500) and prestige, and a boarder's mare can get pregnant if she shares a field with a stallion — that's prestige lost, a fine, and the hidden Oops! achievement (22.5% of players already have it).

The three tiers (community-reported)

Tier Pay Your job
Part board ~50/day Hay, water, mucking out
Full board ~90/day Above plus grain and grooming
Schooling board ~90/day + ~320 one-off Above plus training the horse

Requests come in daily; how many depends on prestige. The demo already relaxed the rule so a single missed bit of dirt doesn’t count as neglect (patch v0.1.8).

Boarders are the cheapest prestige you’ll find early: cared-for boarders raise it, which raises the quality of horses the breeder offers and unlocks tack and trail rides. A pregnant boarder mare or a neglected one does the reverse.

FAQ

How do I stop a boarder's mare getting pregnant?

Keep her out of any field or stable group with a stallion. Stable groups are how you separate horses; gelding your own stallions (~50) removes the risk entirely.

How do I get a boarded horse back?

Horses you board at the breeder's sale barn in town (including foals sent there automatically when your stable was full) are collected from the sale barn.

Why was my boarder hungry in the morning?

Full boarders need grain as well as hay. Open the office Horses ledger: a negative body-condition number means add grain.

Can I end a boarding stay early?

Yes, players report you can send a boarder home before the agreed stay; you're paid for the days served.
